The Lamorinda Democratic Club will be hosting Candidates’ Night for the 14th Assembly District on Friday, April 18. State Assembly District 14 spans a wide section of the East Bay. It includes Lamorinda, Albany, Berkeley, Canyon, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Kensington, Pleasant Hill, Richmond, parts of Oakland, Martinez, and Walnut Creek. The residential and business population of this area is diverse. In addition to being the home of U.C. Berkeley, the district is home to many small businesses as well as some of the largest oil refineries in California. The district is of vital importance to the regional economy of the Bay Area and the state economy. Loni Hancock, who currently represents the 14th AD, will be termed out of office at the end of 2008.There are four candidates running for the seat that Assemblywoman Hancock will be vacating – Dr. Phil Polakoff, Nancy Skinner, Tony Thurmond, and Kriss Worthington.
