LENNY GOLDBERG TO DISCUSS THE CALIFORNIA BUDGET DISASTER: HOW WE GOT INTO IT, HOW WE GET OUT OF IT
During his talk, Goldberg mentioned the following issues that must be resolved to enable California to dig itself out of its current fiscal crisis:
* California has more wealthy residents than any other state in the country, so there is no evidence of impact on economic activity from raising the top tax rates and establishing new tax brackets
* New enterprise zones have not proven to generate new jobs
*Every place in the world but âprogressiveâ? California taxes oil production
*A proposed 10 cent tax per alcoholic beverage is estimated to raise $1.4 billion
Goldberg serves as Executive Director of the California Tax Reform Association, for which he has advocated on a broad range of tax and fiscal issues for over 20 years. Founded in 1976, the California Tax Reform Association aims to bring about a fair tax system in California, in order to provide the foundation for a healthy public sector and a successful economy.
