Lamorinda Democratic Club Members and Friends,
“Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love …”
At the start of this July 4th weekend, a special naturalization ceremony was held in the East Room of the White House, where President Biden welcomed 21 immigrants from 16 nations as new citizens of the United States. The president thanked the new Americans for believing that the United States of America is worthy of their aspirations and dreams.
This Independence Day, let’s celebrate the dreamers — the founding fathers and mothers, the civil rights leaders, organizers, and marchers, and the immigrants — who continued and continue to believe in a more perfect union even when they are faced with seemingly unsurmountable obstacles. Let’s honor the dreamers and the dream with flags and fireworks but also by staying informed and engaged, building community, and revering what the late Congressman John Lewis called “the most powerful tool in a Democracy”— the vote.
Let’s celebrate the America that “yet must be.”
I wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July.
Best,
Tracy Brog
Lamorinda Democratic Club President
Next General Meeting: Thursday, August 12 at 6:30 pm
The LDC 2021 Hot August Night Political Trivia Championship replaces our general monthly meeting in August.
Democrats — Gather your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and join us for a fun evening of trivia, margaritas and reconnecting. We are very excited to announce that this year’s event will be in-person again, at the Lafayette Library Amphitheater. Participants will compete on teams for the pure glory of bragging rights, goofy prizes, and to have the team name engraved on a very fancy perpetual trophy. Don’t wait! Gather your team, come up with a team name and a captain, and register by July 22. Or feel free to come on your own, and we will also be assembling teams on the night. It will feel good to come together again.
Past championship teams:
2017 “Pod Save Contra Costa”
2018 “Mama Said There’s Be Days Like This”
2019 “If We Don’t Win, It’s Rigged”
2020 “The GODs” (Grand Ol’ Democrats)
Try this one as a warm-up!
Three presidents (Adams, Jefferson, and Monroe) died on the 4th of July. Name the only president to have been born on July 4th.
LDC Precinct Organizing Project & the Recall Election
LDC Precinct Organizers and Volunteers are getting our ducks in a row to defeat the gubernatorial recall.
Election Day is Tuesday, September 14, 2021 and all registered voters will be mailed ballots by August 16. If you are a registered Democratic voter in Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Alamo, or Danville, lease join the Precinct Organizing team! No experience necessary, and you can reach out to Democratic voters in your neighborhood in whatever way works best for you and your schedule.
