County Supervisor Race and former Obama Administration Official Featured Topics of Club's Friday, March 9 Meeting

The Lamorinda Democratic Club's monthly meeting on a special night–Friday, March 9–will feature a discussion about the Contra Costa County Supervisor race in our area and a report from a former Obama Administration official.

The club's meeting will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd, in Lafayette. The club's social hour will begin at a new time of 7:00 p.m., with a business meeting at 7:15 p.m. There is a $5 charge at the door to help the club cover meeting expenses.

This month's meeting will have a special format as well. After club business is concluded at appoximately 7:45 p.m., our local speaker will be Ro Khanna from Fremont. Khanna, a former Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Commerce Department under President Obama, will discuss the accomplishments of the Obama Administration and offer a vision for manufacturing and American competitiveness (www.rokhanna.com).

At approximately 8:15 p.m. the club will turn its attention to one of the club's highest priorities for 2012: the Contra Costa County Supervisor District II race as we turn the program over to candidate Tomi Van de Brooke (www.tomivdb.com).

Recently sworn in as President of the Contra Costa Community College Governing Board, Tomi was appointed to serve as the Ward II Trustee on the Governing Board in 2005 and was re-elected in 2006, 2008, and 2010. Her efforts on the Board have resulted in improved use of performance measures, greater fiscal accountability, and a focus on workforce development.

Tomi has the diverse experience and skills needed to help Contra Costa County. She worked for Fortune 500 companies, started and ran her own small business, and was the managing partner of a Walnut Creek communications firm. Tomi also worked for the California Alliance for Jobs, an organization dedicated to rebuilding California’s aging infrastructure. She has dedicated much of her time to helping the community, serving on a number of non-profit boards including the Contra Costa Council, Economic Development Alliance for Business, and the Contra Costa Regional Health Foundation.

Tomi was born and raised in Contra Costa County. She and her husband, John, reside in Orinda with their sons.
