Two Months of Action: How YOU Can Get Involved in Campaign 2012 Is Focus of Club's September 13 Meeting

The Lamorinda Democratic Club's Thursday, September 13, meeting will feature presentations by campaigns in our region telling you how you can volunteer to help Democrats take back the United States House of Representatives, get a 2/3rds supermajority in the California State Legislature, and ensure President Obama is reelected.

The club's meeting will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd, in Lafayette. The club's social hour will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a business meeting at 7:15 p.m. There is a $5 charge at the door to help the club cover meeting expenses.

President Obama needs your help to insure that he will have a supportive Congress during his second term. You can help two congressmen secure their seats – John Garamendi and Jerry McNerney – and two candidates hoping to unseat the current Republican opponents and add two more Democrats to Congress – Ami Bera and Jose Hernandez. All four seats have been targeted by the Republicans. That's why they are asking for your help.

You ask "what can I do?" You can register voters, walk precincts, make telephone calls to voters in the above Congressional Districts, host "meet and greet" parties in your home for friends and family, educate people to the facts that refute the lies that are being told by the Republicans about our President and his government. One of the groups will train you and not let you out on your own until we are sure you are comfortable within your volunteer role, whatever that might be.

At this very important meeting of our club, you will meet either the above candidates or a spokesman representing each candidate who will tell us about their campaign and let us know what help they particularly need. Please join us.

In addition we will have representatives from various active groups like Move-On and OFA (Obama for America) who will have tables with literature and sign-ups for you to help.

As we move into the future the Lamorinda Democratic Club will become more active oriented and we want to get started by giving you opportunities to make a difference this year.

Come ready to roll up your sleeves! Put on your active shoes! Let's get moving!!

County Clerk Responds to CD-11 Vote Count Law Suit

While this story about the lawsuit filed by the David Harmer for Congress campaign against Contra Costa County concerning the CD-11 vote count is worth monitoring, I actually think this post is more interesting for the educational and passionate comments made by Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder Steve Weir as he answers questions and explains what he does and why he does it.

Rep. Jerry McNerney’s Opponent Argued For Abolishing Public Schools

Rep. Jerry McNerney for CongressIn Lamorinda, we care about our public schools. We know how important a top-notch education is for every California student.

That is why I believe all of us should take a moment to read an explosive story by  Mother Jones' Nick Baumann about how Congressmember Jerry McNerney's opponent, David Harmer, has advocated eliminating public schools entirely.

Baumann has found an August 27, 2000 San Francisco Chronicle op-ed,"Abolish the Public Schools," in which Harmer wrote that "government should exit the business of running and funding schools."

Harmer is trying to hide these extreme views during this campaign. Make sure you let your friends in the 11th Congressional District know the radical conservative record Harmer is trying to conceal.
