Happy Holidays! No Club Meeting in December

The Lamorinda Democratic Club will not meet during the month of December.

Our next club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 13. The social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., with our club business meeting at 7:15 p.m. and the speaker program (to be announced) beginning at 8 p.m.

Pollster Alex Evans To Review Election 2010 During Club's Monthly Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 11

Alex Evans, the President and founding partner of EMC Research, will offer his expert analysis of the 2010 elections at the Lamorinda Democratic Club’s monthly meeting on Thursday, November 11. 

The club's social hour will begin at its regular 6:30 p.m. start time at the Orinda Community Church, 10 Irwin Way, Orinda. We will begin our business meeting at 7:15 p.m. with announcements about upcoming events and special short notices of interest to local Democrats. The main program with Evans  will begin at 8 p.m.

Alex has extensive experience in the design and execution of stratified proportional sampling plans, questionnaire development, all forms of opinion research, focus groups, voter polls, strategic design and development and public policy analysis. 

He has handled polling for many campaigns, including those for State Superintendent of Public Instruction-Elect Tom Torlakson, former Senate President pro Tempore Don Perata, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, and many school districts for parcel tax and bond measures. 

Alex has conducted over two thousand public opinion studies. He has polled in every state and throughout the western United States. He has completed survey research at every level of politics and government and for large and small corporations, government institutions, and universities. Alex is considered one of the finest analysts of public opinion in the nation and is frequently asked to speak on the subject at some of the country's top universities. He has directed accounts for some of the nation's largest corporations, Presidential campaigns in this country and abroad, statewide elections, and hundreds of projects on regional and local issues.

Prior to forming EMC Research, Alex was Executive Vice President at Cambridge Survey Research (CSR) where he worked with world-renowned pollster Patrick H. Caddell. 

Alex has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Michigan. He also recently retired from the Richmond City Council.

October 14 Club Meeting To Feature Local Political Experts Discussing the November Election

The Lamorinda Democratic Club’s monthly meeting on Thursday, October 14, will feature two local political experts, Lisa Tucker and Melody Howe Weintraub, offering their expert analysis about the most important political issues and races facing voters around Contra Costa, California, and the nation.

The club will consider questions like the high stakes in the California Governor and U.S. Senate elections. Can anything be done to increase Democratic enthusiasm and turnout? What about the propositions on climate change, majority vote budget, and the rest? What could the results say about the direction Contra Costa, California, and the nation are heading?

The club's social hour will begin at its regular 6:30 p.m. start time at the Orinda Community Church, 10 Irwin Way, Orinda. We will begin our business meeting at 7:15 p.m. with announcements about upcoming events, special short notices of interest to local Democrats, and presentations by Democrats seeking election to local offices this November. Melody Howe Weintraub has lead the political consulting firm of Winning Results since it was established in 1985.  The firm provides political and campaign management assistance to a wide range of candidates, ballot measures and interest groups.

Lisa Tucker is the president of the Tucker Group, a consulting firm that provides strategic political and communications consulting services. Tucker specializes in developing and implementing strategic plans, including collateral materials, and building broad community and constituency support for candidates, initiatives, advocacy groups, and businesses.  She specializes in campaign management; message development; and voter contact and get out the vote programs.

At its September 16 meeting, the members of the Lamorinda Democratic Club voted to endorse the following candidates and positions on statewide propositions. The candidates join the list of previously endorsed candidates.

The LDC’s endorsement process begins with deliberations by our club’s Candidates and Issues Committees. Those committees then make recommendations to the club’s Board of Directors. The Board then can bring the recommendations to the full club for a vote.
